Newborn Gideon-one boy, three sisters
Let me introduce you to sweet little Gideon, the subject of one of my newborn photography sessions in Spokane. I first met his mom, Elizabeth, and his dad, Jermey (a state trooper), at church. After welcoming three little girls into their life, they had been certain that baby number four would be another little girl. Elizabeth and Jermey decided to wait to find out the sex of their fourth child and when Gideon entered this world, they were surprised to welcome a little boy into their life.
With a dad who’s a state trooper, we wanted to incorporate that sense of duty, purpose, and protection that will surround Gideon and the rest of his family throughout their lives. The trooper hat is so symbolic that we felt it was the perfect contrast against the white background and the tiny newborn. You can see just how small Gideon really is in comparison to his dad’s trooper hat and all the responsibility that comes with it.
Jermey has been quite outnumbered over the years. With three little girls, he had adjusted to life as a girl dad, but was pleasantly surprised with Gideon’s arrival, as was Elizabeth. Welcoming a boy into their life might mean some new toys, interests, or activities, but Gideon will also be growing up with his three older sisters keeping a watchful eye on him. He’s bound to learn a thing or two from life with his three sisters.
One of my favorite parts of newborn photography is getting to see parents interact with their newborn baby. It’s such a special time and you can see it on their face. Being able to capture those moments on film is priceless. Elizabeth’s smile says it all as she looks down at Gideon. It’s just her and her son looking as if nothing else matters but the relationship they’re building with one another.
Three daughters and one son now make up this beautiful family. You can already see how the girls are embracing their newborn brother. It’s rare to get a moment where all four kids are together and staying still (at least enough for a photo.) This photo of all four kids will be a point of reflection for years to come so each can see how far they’re come as individuals and as a family.
I’m looking forward to seeing these kids grow up. All four of them bonding together, developing their own interests, probably fighting a little bit but incorporating so much of their parents’ love into their lives as well. Thankfully, I get to see this family every Sunday at church and will be so excited to see how Gideon develops.
Thank you to Jermey and Elizabeth for letting me photograph your beautiful family. Newborn photography is so near and dear to my heart and I love being able to do newborn photography in Spokane.
