A moving maternity shoot: Katie Beth & James

This story is sure to make you tear up a little. I did the below maternity photoshoot for Katie Beth and James. As if the photos aren’t sweet enough, the story behind them makes it even more special.

Katie Beth and James have prayed so hard for this baby boy. They had two loses before this so I was extremely touched to be able to document this moment that was so anticipated and hoped for. You can really see how happy and excited this young couple is and I’m so happy they were able to document that with me.

Since this maternity photoshoot in Spokane, they’ve welcomed their sweet boy Henry. They were so excited to hold their boy in their arms. However, Henry has been diagnosed with a serious heart defect called hypoplastic left heart syndrome. That means the left side of his heart is underdeveloped and can’t effectively pump blood to his body. We’re all praying for a miracle for this sweet family. We are here to support them through the various medical phases of treatment and wish all the best for baby Henry, Katie Beth, James, and the ones they love.

These photos were taken at Manito Park, which is one of my favorite places to take photos since there are so many beautiful areas for photos. I also timed it so that the photos were taken at golden hour, a time when the sun is perfectly positioned for glowing photos that are extra flattering. The sun really makes a huge difference in how these photos come across and it helps convey the joy that I know Katie Beth and James felt.

This blue dress is a piece from my client closet. I love how it fits for maternity shoots and how the sweet, muted blue looks great on so many people. Plus, it allows clients to take photos in something new and special without spending their own money on a brand new dress.

I had a great time commemorating this special time in the life of Katie Beth and James. I am praying hard for baby Henry and wish the whole family the best during these difficult times. Maternity photoshoots like this one in Manito Park introduce me to a family’s story and this one was especially moving.
